Nutrition

Nutrition and lifestyle approaches to healthcare have been repeatedly shown to support the health of all the major systems of the body (skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory, endocrine, immune, reproductive and integumentary [skin, hair, nails). Typical priorities in nutritional therapy consultations are support to achieve optimum energy levels, healthy blood‐sugar balance, emotional and psychological wellbeing, optimum gastrointestinal health and tolerance to a broad range of food groups.

What happens in a consultation?
In a typical nutritional therapy consultation, I will assess the individual’s general health, family history, dietary habits, digestive function and lifestyle. In doing so, I may undertake or commission specific functional tests. I will then devise a dietary and lifestyle plan suitable for the individual’s circumstances. This may include dietary adjustments, suggestions for dietary support, lifestyle changes and food or botanical supplement recommendations. Assessment also provides the basis for referral to a licensed physician, or other healthcare professional if necessary.

Choosing a practitioner
It is important to choose a qualified nutritional therapist who has undertaken all the necessary training to understand the theory and practice of nutritional therapy. I have received postgraduate training in the management of the nutritional needs of individuals with, among other issues, the following:

Gluten sensitivity
Behavioural and psychosocial issues
Mood swings
Low energy / lethargy
Gastrointestinal health and digestive challenges
Dermatological (skin) health issues
Brain health and cognitive function
Immune health and mucosal barrier homeostasis management (oral tolerance)
